Annual Tax Return Report Made Easy by E-Filing.
Every year, as good citizens, we need to make an Annual Tax Return 1770S or 1770 SS (especially for employees who earn less than Rp 60 million per annum) before 31st March. Actually, this report can be done by merely copying information from 1721 A1, which is proof of tax from the companies as employers, to the 1770 S or 1770 SS. However for earnings, we are required to report other sources of income such as interests from savings/time deposits or other investments. In addition, it is necessary to report all assets such as savings/time deposits, investment values including properties and cars, alongside liabilities such as property or car installments or credit cards if any.
Based on tax regulation, there are 3 ways you can choose to report:
1. Submit 1770 S or 1770 SS to the Tax office or drop box and obtain a letter receipt as proof of submission.
2. Send it through the post or courier and keep the receipt as proof of submission.
3. Through E-Filing (Electronic Filing/filing through a browser) and obtain an electronic receipt from the tax office as proof of submission.
Through meeting and enquiring with a friend and even an Account Representative from the Tax Directorate, the Tax office has now realized the importance of submissions of Annual Tax Return electronically through the E-filing method. Even corporate taxpayers should report through E-filing, if the company has used that method for VAT reporting and monthly withholding tax return. This is supported by PER-41/PJ/2015 with regards to the increase in security of Electronic Online Transaction Tax Services.
Previously, I had always preferred to submit the Annual Tax Return report by sending it through the post. Last year, I decided to try something new and used the E-filing instead. I found out that the process is relatively easier, although it does take a bit of time to complete the E-filing form completely especially in filling in the assets and liabilities. I also ran into a small server problem when trying to submit the information online. However, overall, it was less of a hassle.
Before we are able to fill in and report our personal Annual Tax Return report through E-filing, we will need to register to the local Tax Service office to obtain an E-Fin (an electronic identification). According to PER-41/PJ/2015, it is possible to obtain an E-fin through the company. Employees are able to do this by filling in the form to request an E-fin and the company will then be able to request an E-Fin for their employees. Although by regulation, employees should technically be present when they request their E-fin, based on experience, the Tax service office allows employees to not be present as long as their forms are complete and signed. This way, it will be easier to obtain an E-fin. With an E-fin, employees are now able to open and report through the E-filing method.
Enclosed below, is the form that is required to be completed in order to obtain an E-fin, enabling you to report your Annual Tax Return through E-filing.
